Lately I have been noticing minor changes to my health and overall approach to the food I eat. I can't handle eating the way I used to without feeling sick later on. I decided to make a change and picked up a book that has been making its way through my family and reforming [with great success] their diets. The book is called "Eating Right for Your Type" and focuses on developing a way of eating based on your blood type. Mine happens to be A, which means meat [with the occasional exception of chicken and turkey] and dairy products are extremely harmful to my system. The author broke down every food group [as well as supplements, medicines, and beverages] and mapped out what was 'highly beneficial' to eat and what wasn't, as well as some things that were neutral [meaning they wouldn't make much difference either way]. Oh my goodness. When I first saw the list of things I couldn't eat, and why it was harmful I almost cried... but then I tried out the diet for a week and I have NEVER felt better. Right away I dropped 5lbs of fat that I didn't even know I had to lose, and noticed a huge improvement in the way I felt and approached life.
This drastic change has come with a new set of problems though. I now have to explain to people why I have suddenly chosen to give up so many different types of food, and listen to their rants about how unhealthy and unbalanced they think it is. I have also given up on the idea of going on dates to a restaurant [not that I mind, my biggest pet peeve is the lack of table manners and even before this change I couldn't handle eating around non-family members]. There is also the minor issue that my mother [who also follows this diet] is a type O... which means her diet is pretty much the exact opposite of mine... and grocery shops accordingly. This lifestyle change requires so much more planning and intentionality than I usually want to exert, but all these things are a small price to pay. And as I am quickly learning, some of the best recipes I have ever tried are vegetarian and fit into my diet perfectly!
