Simply Intoxicating

Of the five senses that humans are blessed with, the sense of smell is my favorite. Nothing is more satisfying than catching the aroma of something wonderful in the oven, freshly laundered clothes, or [my personal favorite]the cologne of that oh-so-attractive guy you just walked by who clearly appreciates good hygiene and style.

Right now I happen to be sitting at my desk by my bedroom window attempting to focus on the massive amount of homework the chef so graciously assigned us. Obviously it isn't working out for me... Two things distract me. First, this blog. Before yesterday I never felt the need to share my thoughts with more than a select friend or two. Why that feeling so suddenly changed I do not know. The second, the wonderful smell drifting in through my open window. It's captivating. My mother, being the fabulous gardener that she is, has a fascinating assortment of flowers and bushes planted in our yard RIGHT below my window. These scents on their own mingle with each other and produce something truly intoxicating. Add on that it is a balmy, warm day with a slight breeze and I hope it helps you to understand how distracting this is for me. Oh, and the shirt I'm wearing is freshly laundered with a 'fresh linen' fabric softener.

Flowers...warm air...fabric softener... I'm in heaven.

Early Mornings

By now my family is well aware of my love/hate relationship with early mornings. I love to be up just as the sun has risen when the air is crisp and the house is quiet. The problem I have is actually getting up. It kills me when my 4am alarm clock goes off blaring in my ear until about 45 minutes later when I can form coherent thoughts and begin to consider dragging my exhausted self out of bed. The hour between 4am and 5am [or whenever i happen to be waking up] is by far the worst. Nothing in the world seems more inviting than crawling back into my warm and cozy bed to fall back asleep and block out my responsibilities. I admit, sometimes [ok most of the time] I give in to this and end up way oversleeping. As a result I have mastered the art of fast showers, braiding my hair while getting dressed, putting on shoes while flying down the stairs, and eating breakfast [if I'm lucky] while driving [and trying my best not to get pulled over]. I know getting up just a mere 20 minutes earlier would considerably relax my mornings... and when I do manage this I NEVER regret it... but this is where the love/hate part comes in. I love being up early, I just hate getting up early.

Cute :)

I was recently poking around on Pinterest and came across this audio clip... It's pretty cute.
